Today’s Topic: Peace That Passes Understanding
Today’s Scripture
The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains…Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists. – Acts 12:6–7, NIV
Today’s Word
Herod Agrippa had just put the apostle James to death, and it looked as though Peter was the next in line to die for his faith. You would think he would be so wo floor in his prison cell. But in the night, the angel sent to rescue Peter had to wake him up. How could he be sleeping knowing that within hours he could lose his life? That’s the peace that passes understanding.
It’s not a coincidence that Peter was the one who wrote: “Cast all your anxieties on God” (1 Pet. 5:7). He was saying, “I know what it’s like to have worry and fear bombard your mind. I’ve faced some serious anxiety.” If Peter were here today, he would tell you that the antidote to anxiety is to turn it over to God. Don’t carry it; cast it. Don’t dwell on all the negative, try to figure it out, or focus on the what-ifs. Put it all in God’s hands. That’s when you’ll have peace that passes understanding while you’re waiting for the angels to go to work.
Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that no matter what trouble I face, I can stay in peace knowing that You are surrounding me and You can turn every situation around and put an end to it. Thank You that You even send angels in various forms to rescue me. I declare that You are greater than any force that comes against me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
